Christofle presents « Duel des Thés », an exceptional and astonishing chess set created in its French Haute Orfèvrerie workshops, combining the best of its know-how with the emblematic lines of two of its Art Nouveau and Art Deco tea sets.
Art Deco meets Art Nouveau

This is the spirit in which Christofle imagined "Le Duel des Thés", a first chess set of its kind, combining the excellence of its Haute Orfèvrerie workshops and two legendary collections from the Maison born in Paris in 1830, with the pioneering spirit that has marked each of its creations ever since.
With the elegance and distinction that have been its hallmarks since it was founded by Charles Christofle, symbolized for over a century by its hallmark: the silhouette of a chess piece, a knight whose origins remain brilliantly... mysterious.

Le Duel des Thés est un jeu de cartes imaginé par le Studio Christofle comme une confrontation ludique entre deux courants artistiques incarnés par des collections historiques de la Maison: l’Art Nouveau avec la collection ‘Courges’, ses lignes organiques et ses motifs végétaux et l’Art Déco du service ‘Printania’ avec ses lignes droites et géométriques.
L'Echiquier
Tous les savoir-faire des ateliers Christofle se conjuguent pour donner naissance à ces 32 pièces en argent massif poli miroir, et aux couronnes de vermeil ornant les deux Dames et les deux Rois.
La miniaturisation - d’un peu plus de trois centimètres pour les plus petites, à un peu plus de huit centimètres pour les plus hautes – a été un défi d’envergure, d’autant plus que chaque pièce est parfaitement fonctionnelle, avec son bec-versoir évidé, son couvercle articulé…
Tournage-repoussage, clivetage, montage-assemblage, polissage, avivage, gravure, ciselure : au sein des ateliers de Haute Orfèvrerie, six métiers différents ont travaillé, pendant plus de quatre cents heures, à la création de ces deux équipes décidément sans pareil, selon des techniques quasiment inchangées depuis bientôt deux cents ans.
Placed on a pad, they compete on an equally exceptional playground. Christofle entrusted cabinet-maker Jean-Brieuc Chevalier from Angers with the creation of the wooden top clad in swamp oak, a rare species resulting from a thousand-year-old fossilization process, which gives it its charcoal-like color.
It took over 100 hours of surgically precise work to affix each of the 32 sterling silver plates one by one, ensuring a perfectly flat surface. The silver belt, also affixed by hand, bears the sterling silver title mark (Minerva's head), the Christofle's Master Hallmark, the year of production and the number of this set, offered, on request, in a limited edition of eight.
